PERL, M.D., F.R.C.P.(C), F.C.C.P.,
is the
Medical Director and Consulting Respirologist of the sleep centres. He is a
graduate of University of Basel, Switzerland Medical School. He completed his
post graduate training in Internal Medicine and Respirology in Toronto. During
his training he was involved in the first sleep laboratory In Toronto at Queen
Elizabeth Hospital. Dr. Perl has been practicing general Respirology since
1981 with a particular interest and extra training in Sleep Medicine, now a
growing portion of his practice.
MORTIMER MAMELAK, M.D., F.R.C.P. (C), PSYCHIATRY,
is the Research Director of the sleep laboratory who has been a sleep physician
since 1971. He has a major body of research work, primarily related to the
diagnosis and treatment of Narcolepsy, and continues to work in this area.
His clinical and research interests also involve head injury and its relation
to sleep. He has also treated numerous patients with sleep apnea and other
sleep disorders, and is authorized to sign for ADP subsidized CPAP treatment.
Dr. Mamelak sees patients in consultation and follow-up as well as serving
on the Quality Advisory Board.
DR. H. GILL, M.SC., PH.D., ABSM, R.PSG.T., R.E.T.,
is a Diplomate of the American Board of Sleep Medicine, and a Fellow
of the American Sleep Disorders Association. He has been working
in the field of clinical EEG as well as Clinical Polysomnography
and Sleep Medicine for the past 12 years. He completed a sleep
medicine fellowship program in Calgary, as well as attending
courses at schools of sleep medicine both in Atlanta and Stanford
University. Dr. Gill is also a Registered Polysomnographic
Technologist and a Registered EEG Technologist. Dr. Gill has
also served as a Member of the Board of Directors of Sleep-Wake
Disorders Canada. He is continuing his education by taking
courses offered by the ASDA at the APSS annual meetings.
The role of Dr. Gill is to assist the physicians with the
interpretation of sleep studies, and to provide continuing
education for both the medical and technical staff.
JUDITH POPKIN, R.PSG.T., R.C.P.T.,
is a registered Cardio-Pulmonary and Polysomnographic technologist.
Ms. Popkin has been continuously working since 1984 as a technician
(both research and clinical), consultant and educator in sleep
technology, the latter involving both certificate and advanced
courses at the Michener Institute. Her role in the sleep lab
is to offer educational and technical support for the technicians,
as well as overseeing the quality management program. Ms. Popkin
attends the yearly APSS meetings and takes advanced courses in
polysomnography (both adult and pediatric) on a continuous basis,
as well as being involved with beta testing sleep diagnostic
equipment.
MICHAEL ROZENBERG, R.PSG.T.,
is the Technical Director of the sleep laboratory. He is a registered
Polysomnographic technologist, and responsible for the day-to day operations,
data analysis, as well as equipment maintenance. Mr. Rozenberg has extensive
experience in the field of EEG and sleep technology. In 1993 he received
training in EEG technology at the Penetanguishine Mental Health Centre,
Ontario, Canada. Since that time he has been the staff EEG technologist
at 5 Ontario, Canada, hospitals concurrently. He has been involved in a
research project involving brain mapping with Dr. M. Mamelak of the
Baycrest Geriatric Centre, Toronto, in conducting EEGs for patient
suffering from various neurological disorders. Mr. Rozenberg has
taken the training course in sleep technology at the Ottawa General
Hospital, Ottawa, in 1995. He is a technical consultant for the Michener
Institute Polysomnography course, responsible for the maintenance
and repair of the polygraphs. Mr. Rozenberg attends the yearly APSS
meetings and other formal courses.
